After you purchase a mercenary card do you get to keep it permanently or does it work only work for one battle? By the amount it cosst I would think you get to keep it but just thought I would check first.

Yes of course permanently, if you've purchased, NOT rent

If you build up the gobs of XP and credits it takes to buy them, they are yours permanently just like any other regular tank. If you only rent them, you get the card for the number of battles beside which of the three payment options you used.

Thanks for asking this! I always thought they were rent only so I didn't want to use XP and credits for something temporary.
